I am a lifelong resident of Quincy, IL and I went through the Quincy Public School system.  I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education from Illinois State University and a Masters degree in Education from Southwest Baptist University.

My 33 year career in teaching art started at Unity High School in Mendon, IL and the rest of my years were in the Quincy Public School system.  I taught art in fourth through sixth grades at Baldwin Intermediate School, then 7th through 9th grades at Quincy Junior High, and returned to the high school age student at Quincy Senior High from which I retired.

I also have taught courses as an adjunct instructor at Quincy University, Culver-Stockton College and John Wood Community College.

I enjoy working in many different art media.  Because I was an art teacher I had to be proficient in all of them.

Lately, my acrylic paintings run to more abstract compositions.  I use acrylic paint because it dries more quickly and I can work on the next step without too much wait time. I also incorporate stenciling and charcoal in many of the pieces. Sometimes I have used texture medium to add another dimension to the surface.

My newest interest is pastel after taking several workshops taught by Cecile Houel from Burlington, Iowa.  These are usually realistic and the subject matter includes portraits, still life and landscape. I like to work from photographs so that I can observe things more closely. Many of the photos are from the places we have traveled.

My pieces have been in Gallery 310 (Hannibal, MO) since 2010 and they were accepted into the Mary S. Oakley & Lee Lindsay Artist Showcase (2014 & 2015), and the Quincy Art Center Members’ Exhibit (2014).  I provided a piece for the 2014 Big Brothers Big Sisters Look Who’s Painting Benefit and  my works can also be seen in several private art collections.

I am a member of the Quincy Art Center, and the Quincy Artists Guild. I am a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Quincy.

I live in Quincy with my husband and my hobbies are gardening, knitting, camping, travelling and motorcycle riding.
